Red Sonja number one variant covers

I picked up the first issue of Red Sonja this past week ( The Peacock cover ) while I was in the store I noticed they had all the variant covers.  I wanted to purchase them all...after all they are brand new comics...so I grabbed each one and approached the counter.  They even had the b/w variants of the covers so I picked them too.  The guy rings them up and the bill came to over 300 bucks...I was like WHOAHHH DUDE!!! 300 bucks?  He says " Yeah the variant covers are all 25 dollars each. "  I said " Ok you're crazy and thats a rip...I'll just take this one. "  ( The peacock cover is the newstand edition ) paid cover price and walked out.  What a creep...the nerve of him 25 each for brand new comics.  At most those comics could be marked up to 5 bucks each but 25?  What is this ebay?  Anyway I can't divulge the name of the store because I don't want to get sued...BUT I can tell you they are directly across the street from an Ice cream confectioner and MUGSY McGEE'S corner pub. In Massapequa NY.  Anyway...here are some of the variants by...Nicola Scott, Colleen Doran, Jenny Frison, Stephanie Buscema, Fiona Staples, and Amanda Conner...enjoy

  1. Unfortunately my friend this is the problem with variant covers, comic book stores are going to raise the price expecting them to be worth more, when in fact they are only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for. The way the industry is heading I wouldn't be surprised by another comics dark age like the 90's (the decade of no Sonja!).

  3. Yes FLIP I know thank you. But sadly...they're only worth cover price and that shop owner is stark raving mad. I urge people to burn his store down. lol jk lol jk...( Disclaimer I did not really mean it don't burn down his store )

  4. Special/limited/alternative/variant/etc. covers aside, that is too much for a comic book issue with a only a different cover! I would just buy the cheaper issue, and have the special cover issues sit there until they get discounted. I hate when people enable this kind of collector's market on cheap goods - nothing good has came or will ever come of it! At $25 an issue, I expect a compilation of stories, a larger assortment of pin-up art, etc.

  5. Ebay has almost all the variant covers including the 1:25 covers for £8.99 a piece.
